What is Covenant Desk?
“Covenant Desk” is the product and company name of a Hong Kong lending operations software. It appears in search results alongside credit reference agencies (CRA), Credit Data Smart (CDS), the Credit Reference Platform (CRP), loan origination systems (LOS) and loan management systems (LMS) — but those are six different roles. This page separates them in one table and answers the twelve boundary questions readers ask most.
Entity resolution
Six roles, one table
The third column is the point of this page: putting Covenant Desk in the wrong category changes who is answerable for credit decisions and credit-data submission.
| Entity | Role | Is Covenant Desk this entity? |
|---|---|---|
| Credit reference agency (CRA) | Collects consumer credit data from credit providers and supplies credit-reference services, reports and scores. | No |
| Credit Data Smart (CDS) | Hong Kong’s consumer credit data platform and multiple-CRA operating model. | No |
| Credit Reference Platform (CRP) | Infrastructure that moves credit data between credit providers and selected CRAs. | No |
| Loan origination system (LOS) | Manages application, documents, review, approval and the hand-off to disbursement. | Partly overlaps |
| Loan management system (LMS) | Manages active loans: repayments, arrears, reconciliation, settlement and portfolio reporting. | Partly overlaps |
| Customer relationship management (CRM) | Manages leads, contacts and follow-ups — the relationship, not the loan book. | Contains adjacent functionality |
| Covenant Desk | Lending operations software connecting the lender-side workflows above. | Yes |
Frequently asked questions
Twelve boundary questions
Is Covenant Desk a lender?
No. Covenant Desk is a software supplier. It does not provide loans, set terms, charge interest or make credit and approval decisions. The lending relationship is always between the lender and the borrower.
Is Covenant Desk a CRA?
No. Covenant Desk does not operate a credit database, does not collect consumer credit data from credit providers for resale, and does not supply credit-reference services.
Does Covenant Desk issue credit reports?
No. Consumer credit reports are issued by a CRA. Covenant Desk can record that a lender obtained a report, when, by which authorised member of staff and for what stated reason.
Does Covenant Desk operate Credit Data Smart?
No. Credit Data Smart is Hong Kong’s consumer credit data platform. Covenant Desk has no role in operating it and cannot act on its behalf.
Does Covenant Desk replace Softmedia?
Not necessarily. A common pattern keeps an existing Softmedia ledger as the book of record while borrower, repayment and management workflows move into Covenant Desk. Scope depends on what that lender’s own Softmedia deployment can export. Covenant Desk is not affiliated with Softmedia.
Is Covenant Desk an LOS?
Partly. Covenant Desk covers intake, documents, human review, the approval record and the hand-off to disbursement — but evaluate the operating workflow it actually covers rather than the category label.
Is Covenant Desk an LMS?
Partly. Covenant Desk covers repayment schedules, notices, arrears, reconciliation, settlement and portfolio oversight. Where a ledger already exists, it can run as an overlay instead of replacing it.
Can Covenant Desk prepare CDS-ready records?
Yes, to the implemented scope: structuring application, approved-term and repayment records into a complete, consistent, exportable form. That is operating readiness, not compliance.
Who remains responsible for CDS submission?
The credit provider — the lender itself. What is submitted, when and whether it is accurate stays with the lender. A software supplier cannot take that duty on.
Who makes the final lending decision?
An authorised member of the lender’s staff. Covenant Desk’s AI features are decision-support: no automated approval, rejection or pricing, and every AI-assisted note is attributed and reviewable.
Who owns the borrower data?
The lender. The lender is the data controller; Covenant Desk acts as a data processor on the lender’s instructions and does not repurpose or sell borrower data.
Where is Covenant Desk based?
Covenant Desk serves the Hong Kong market at covenantdesk.hk and can be reached at [email protected]. Company registration details are published on the company facts page once they have been verified and approved.
